NAME: Argilla
CANON: Digital Devil Saga
POINT IN CANON: Point of death.
AGE: Unknown, though the simulation she was born in ran for 5 years so technically no older than 5 despite looking like she’s in her late 20’s to early 30’s.
APPEARANCE: Argilla, Seismic Wave Atma, Beserk , Human form and as Prithivi
CANON HISTORY: Wiki Link
CANON PERSONALITY: Argilla is a very friendly individual, eager to meet new people and talk to them. As such, Argilla is one of the last members of her tribe to advocate violence. She is the first to point out if something in the plan doesn't feel like it's the right thing to do. Argilla greatly values talking and finding a solution that is satisfactory to both parties without violent action. Her open friendliness makes Argilla the best candidate for approaching other tribes/nations in an effort to gain new allies. Her open expression of emotions and warm demeanor welcome to those they approach. It helps sell the fact that the Embryon have nothing to hide.
For as friendly as she is Argilla is capable of making snap judgments about people, especially when they show behaviors she finds amoral or distasteful. Specifically, she has a hard time stomaching those who readily and happily accept that they are required to devour their enemies in order to survive. The thought of doing so needlessly as opposed to stave off the insanity inducing effects of the hunger leaves her uncomfortable. Her newly awakened emotions and morals deem the act of killing those who have done nothing to her and hers disgusting and on equal level with what gave her and the tribe their new powers. Those that do are met with anger and hostility on Argilla’s part.
Her snap judgments are a little hypocritical though, as one of her own relishes in the hunt and devouring their enemies, enough so that he makes many jokes about needing snacks. While his behavior unsettles her sometimes, Heat is still family so she accepts his enjoyment in the hunt and their hunger even as she denies it in herself.
Paired with this is a canny intelligence to read people’s motivations and emotions. It is not quite the same as their strategist’s unfailing logic, but she’s the most receptive to the new emotions swirling within each of them. She is the quickest at putting words to the strange displays of affect and body language her tribe has started showing. And she has the easiest time accepting that these emotional changes are for the better. In truth, she almost can’t fathom how they got on without emotion and morals before. But now that they have them she knows they’re invaluable tools, and she uses her newfound familiarity to help aid her tribe in their goals as best she can either by using her knowledge of body language and affect to read their visitors or to alter her own body language to show what they might find more acceptable.
Her quick and easy understanding of emotions actually goes perfectly with Argilla’s nurturing side. She is the one that her tribe members go to when they are confused by their new emotions. Her understanding of what they are feeling and ability to put it in terms that are easier to understand have made her a central figure of the tribe even more than she already was. In many ways she has become the tribe mother, caring for it’s many members and helping them as much as is within her power to do so without completely smothering their ability to learn on their own. She doesn’t like seeing them suffer or be confused, but she understands that sometimes it is necessary in order for them to learn.
It is probably because she has such an easy understanding of emotions that Argilla has the most open desire for vengeance of her tribe. They all feel it on varying levels she knows that, but in general Argilla can and has let her need for vengeance become a single-minded entity. She will pursue those that have betrayed her and those she considers hers to their end with no hesitation. She will willingly don disguises or play decoy with little concern for her own well-being if it helps the tribes chances at getting the revenge they need.
Of course that means very little as once she’s left to her own devices, Argilla tends to throw most of the plan out the window when confronted with the cause. Actually, once face to face with the target, Argilla will lash out mostly in anger but also in an intense need to understand their motivations. She lashes out but those attacks are peppered with questions of why. And while she would love to kill them outright for their treachery she would like to understand before the final blow is delivered.
Deeply loyal, Argilla can’t fathom what it would take to betray her tribe. Those that do betray their tribe are considered as less than scum and are met with a great deal of anger and hatred from Argilla. Much of this anger and hatred stems from Argilla considering tribe as family, and to betray one's family, when they should be the most important thing to you, feels like the worst sort of sin one could commit. And given that she would do anything for her family, to know someone is willing to sever those ties without any remorse…let’s just say she doesn’t understand it.
She’s a curious soul, willing to try anything, experience anything. She is tired of the war that she escaped, and the constant fighting that came with it. She’s just tired, and Nirvana was supposed to be a place of peace. All she’s ever wanted was to be normal and experience normal human things like real food, and quiet nights where they didn’t have to keep a watch to be safe. She’s fought for it and at this point she isn’t entirely sure what normal is since Nirvana turned out to be a lie. But she thinks she knows what it means to be normal and she wants to achieve that. And the major component of being normal is not having to devour people in order to survive, she’ll do it because she has to but she doesn’t enjoy it and wishes she didn’t have to do so anymore.
POINT OF DEPARTURE: N/A.
ABILITIES:
Keen Eyesight: Argilla has by far the best eyesight of her tribe, able to hit her targets either with or without the scope on her sniper rifle.
Soldier: First and foremost Argilla is a soldier, she is trained to be proficient in hand to hand combat and weaponry. Primarily being her sniper rifle before the introduction of the demon virus.
Hunter: Argilla is a reluctant hunter (read: cannibal), she doesn’t like killing for no reason. However she requires large amounts of meat to satisfy herself and maintain sanity. If for whatever reason she doesn’t eat (as she did in the immediate aftermath of being infected) she grows weak to the point she needs help moving and eventually her body becomes covered in angled lines of pink and if she doesn’t eat soon fully transforms into her Asura form Prithivi and will attack anything in her path regardless of being friend or foe.
Mantra Grid: In the simulation and after in the real world Argilla had access to a large bank of downloadable skills called Mantra’s, mastering mantras allowed her to perform a great deal of magic and healing skills that she would not otherwise have access too. Prithivi being what she was is far better suited to magic and healing as well as casting ailments than using physical skills outside of the hunt skills needed to satisfy her constant hunger. Specifically she nearly mastered all Earth spells save for the all target -dyne and ultimate spell, mid-level healing, and a smattering of the other elements (ice, fire, electricity, force/wind, expel, and death).
Argilla has a very pronounced weakness to Force/Wind unfortunately her Force Resist skill was lost in the transfer between Junkyard and real world and is only capable of negating damage or repelling it. On the flipside she is incredibly strong to other Earth spells as it is her element and takes far less damage than her tribe members from spell aligned with Earth. She also had a couple of the revival skills.
Asura: Like the other Embryon and their fallen comrades of the Junkyard, Argilla is capable of turning into a demon to make better use of her magic and too hunt. Not all inhabitants of the Junkyard gained Asura’s, most tribes only received one or two where the Embryon gained five when the energy wave swept through and branded the inhabitants. Asura’s are stronger, more durable, and much harder to grievously injure by conventional means, making it an ideal form to battle in and are have much higher strengths and fewer weaknesses than the lesser demons most foot soldiers and high ranking tribe officers became.
Medic: Even before the demon virus, Argilla functioned primarily as the tribe’s medic. She is familiar with how to treat and care for many injuries and has knowledge of field dressings as well as the more complicated procedures required to remove shrapnel and stitch up lacerations if it wasn’t too bad of an injury.
Data Port: Like other Junkyard inhabitants, she has a small port roughly the size of a headphone jack just below her skull on the right side that she primarily uses to plug in a scope that gives detailed readouts of terrain, temperature, distance, numbers, opposing tribe, etc.
Beserk: When the solar noise would reach a certain level, Argilla and the rest of the Embryon suffered from going beserk, which was a half human-half asura form with darkened skin and golden eyes. In this form Argilla hits harder physically than she ever has but in exchange her defense is almost nil, taking far more damage in return if an enemy is able to get the jump on her or she fails to destroy them in a single hit.
Regurgitation: Sometimes while devouring others, Argilla will come across an item that was on the defeated enemy that she is unable to digest. When that happens she regurgitates the item and has been known to give it to Serph or whomever is currently leading based on the Embryon’s standing command structure.
Extra Sense: Since being infected with the demon virus, Argilla like the rest is capable of sensing particularly strong demons or highly desirable food sources through doors and walls. She was also able to sense the emotional presence of others in close proximity and whether or not a space was recently vacated by another.
INVENTORY; Sniper rifle and ammo, clothes on her back, tag ring.
